Drug Interaction/Allergy Checking Medications ordered, prescribed, or dispensed in the ED can now be checked automatically or on demand against medications taken and known drug allergies for possible drug-drug interactions or allergy/hypersensitivity reactions. An integrated link in the Wellsoft system to Gold Standard, a leading developer of drug information databases, provides immediate, up-to-date, clinically-relevant information on all U.S. prescription drugs, as well as off-label uses and dosage, herbal supplements, nutritional and over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs. Medication Reconciliation The Wellsoft EDIS medication reconciliation feature decreases the possibility of drug errors (e.g. wrong dose, missed dose or duplicate medication) due to provider or patient misunderstandings during clinical transition times. Designed to enhance patient safety, an expanded and enriched medications table includes a source column to capture the reliability of medication information. Pharmacy Interface Pharmacy orders, including repeat orders, can be sent electronically to the hospital pharmacy system using Wellsoft EDIS. Each order entered using Wellsoft’s medication display can be sent to the pharmacy system through an HL7 interface (ORM/RXO). The Wellsoft system is able to receive inbound HL7 messages (ORM/RXO) and populate the patient’s record with the appropriate medication order. Integrated Medication System including Drug Dosing Calculator Automatic weight-based dosing calculations are integrated into Wellsoft EDIS including alerts based on minimum/maximum doses.
