Wellsoft EDIS offers two alternatives for order management in the Emergency Department. Orders can be placed directly from within the Wellsoft system or the hospital can retain their current method of ordering. The two options are:
Inbound Order Tracking
Dynamically track orders placed through the hospital’s current order entry process using Wellsoft EDIS. A copy of the orders placed, any status updates and results generated in systems such as lab and radiology are sent to the Wellsoft system. This enables Wellsoft EDIS to track the status of orders placed, alert staff to factors such as the elapsed time, and to flag results on the Wellsoft EDIS tracking display.
Order Entry
Laboratory & Radiology
Real-time order entry for Laboratory and Radiology are provided using standard HL7 interfaces. Emergency Department staff enters orders by selecting from a unified orders menu or from a site-defined order template. Orders are processed through a single keystroke and are automatically added to the tracking display to alert staff to tasks that need to be completed. The Wellsoft system automatically removes the flag and time-stamps orders when statuses and results are received.
Results Reporting
Immediately flag the tracking display when you receive real-time lab and radiology results in Wellsoft. With support for routine and critical values, automatically document and timestamp review of results. Can be used in conjunction with order entry, order tracking or as a stand-alone by creating a copy of the order when results are received.
Radiology Tracking
Dynamically track patients with radiology orders and results apart from other patients in the ED. This enables an easy comparison of the ED Attending’s initial wet readings with the Radiologist’s finding. Track patients by physician or time and flag for further follow up and quality assurance measures.
Pharmacy Orders
Pharmacy orders, including repeat orders, can be sent electronically to the hospital pharmacy system using Wellsoft EDIS. Each order entered using Wellsoft’s medication display can be sent to the pharmacy system through an HL7 interface (OMP or RDE). The Wellsoft system will also be able to receive inbound HL7 messages (OMP or RDE) and populate the patient’s record with the appropriate medication order. Additionally, Wellsoft can send an HL7 pharmacy administration message (RAS) which includes administration time and dose.
