System Security

Depending on the scope of the implementation, Wellsoft v11 may contain a great deal of sensitive information. Deciding exactly who is allowed to enter, edit or view specific information can get very involved. Fortunately, Wellsoft v11 incorporates a comprehensive access system that enables security to be designed with as much or as little detail needed.

Security Level II is used for all full implementations of the Wellsoft v11 EDIS. Level II enables the setup of an unlimited number of users, each with specific read and/or write privileges to each part of the program. Each user can access only those functions in the program for which they have been given privileges. Privileges are typically defined by the role users assume, such as secretary, nurse, intern or physician. A nurse for example, could be assigned read/write privileges for nursing documentation but read only privileges for physician documentation. Each user can be assigned one or multiple privileges.

While this system may seem a little complicated at first, it provides a great deal of flexibility that can easily accommodate even the most complicated ED environments. In fact, you may only need to use a fraction of the functionality available, simplifying the implementation.

Security Level I is the simplest Wellsoft v11 security. This security system is most often used in implementations of limited functionality, for example discharge instruction sites. Under this scenario all users are given full access to all patient data. This level incorporates a user defined password which is required to make any changes to the program’s configuration. Security Level I is simple to understand and implement and is the only security some facilities need, especially if all clinical workstations are in relatively secure areas.

The key to understanding Wellsoft security, and indeed all Wellsoft features, is that security can be as complete or streamlined as desired and is configured to meet site specific needs.
