Wellsoft v11 supports thin client implementations using Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix. These environments provide for conservation of bandwidth while delivering good throughput to remote locations utilizing low speed connectivity. This option is particularly effective for multiple hospital implementations lacking high-speed connections. It also allows Wellsoft v11 to operate
in a browser, and offers the best of both worlds by providing full functionality without the security and response time issues typical to web-based products.
In contrast, the design of the Wellsoft system enables all data to be saved immediately. No window needs to be closed or save button needs to be hit. This is critical to the ED environment where clinicians are routinely interrupted by urgent situations and time is of the essence. Losing data is not an option.
Implementation Details
A Terminal Server or Citrix Server passes keyboard and screen information back and forth to the Terminal Server or Citrix Server client that runs on a workstation.
The work required of the Terminal Server or Citrix Server depends largely on the number of concurrent users. For v11, the number of concurrent users is typically the same as the number of workstations running v11.
The parameters that determine how many concurrent users can be supported are:
- The size and speed of the CPUs.
- The amount of RAM available to the server.
The CPU requirements are based on the maximum number of concurrent users (Approx. 25 users per CPU).
The RAM requirements are 256Mb (OS Requirements) plus 20Mb times the maximum number of concurrent users.
The recommendation below is for server hardware for 50 workstations running Wellsoft v11 on a Terminal Server or Citrix Server.
Recommended Configuration for Single Citrix Server:
Dual Pentium 4, 3.0 GHz
2 GB RAM
RAID5 with three 72 GB HD (or larger)
NIC 100Mb
For additional workstations (over 50), multiple servers may be required.
